For Immediate Release:

From local favorites like Greg Cartwright of Reigning Sound to an upcoming guest set by internationally acclaimed DJ James Nasty from Baltimore, this new weekly series aims to bring a taste of the “Old School” to Asheville in a brand new way

ASHEVILLE, NC / August 12, 2022 - Award-winning Bottle Riot in the River Arts District is now one of Asheville’s only listening lounges and bars.

The new weekly music series of live DJ sets includes DJ Lil Meow Meow’s Listening Room each Tuesday, Wax Wednesdays with the Riot Squad featuring heavy-hitters like Greg Cartwright (aka The Big G) of Reigning Sound and Asheville FM’s Whitney Shroyer (aka Mr. Soulmotion), the Friday Freq: Out!, also with a rotating roster of DJs, and Saturday Sounds with DJ OGSynergy (aka Nex Millan).

Additionally, they are thrilled to be welcoming internationally acclaimed “Best DJ In A Club”, James Nasty from Baltimore, for one night only: Friday, August 26, starting at 7 pm with no cover.

Inspired by the phenomenon that sprung up in 1950s Japan, listening bars — spaces with sophisticated audio equipment that play highly-curated vinyl records (see Happy Hour Goes Hi-Fi) — Barrett Nichols, co-owner, artist, and dedicated record collector, decided to build a permanent DJ booth equipped with a hi-fidelity sound system that Shroyer of the Riot Squad, and King of the famed Saturday night dance parties at The Admiral, described as “the best house system set-up in town.”

“We are excited to be able to create a truly sonic experience that you can enjoy with friends over a glass of wine, beer, or cocktails,” says co-owner Lauri Nichols, adding, “you’re immersed in a unique experience that only a true ‘listening bar’ can bring. We like to say that Bottle Riot is like a fine wine - we are always evolving and growing into something even more beautiful than before.”

DJ Lil Meow Meow (aka Annelise Kopp) became the first to join the weekly series for the Tuesday night “Listening Room”, with Shroyer then forming the Riot Squad for “Wax Wednesdays”, showcasing a revolving door of other local Asheville FM DJs such as The Free Range DJ (Matt Fulgham), Old F’n Gold (Jasper Delaini), and DJ Blind Date (Devyn Marzuola), in addition to Greg Cartwright of the legendary Reigning Sound, who will all be spinning everything from rare 45’s to ’90’s funk, house, hip-hop, electro, new wave, soul, and more.

Even Bottle Riot bartender Clifford Cook (aka Thrifstore DJ), who some may remember from the days of BoBo Gallery, is forming a powerhouse lineup of local DJs for the Friday night Freq: Out! slot, with Asheville performer DJ OGSynergy (aka Nex Millan) in the booth on Saturday nights.

Between the unique, relaxed atmosphere and exceptional drinks Bottle Riot is known for, and now the weekly lineup of incredible music, they’re excited and proud to bring a new kind of experience to Asheville, all while “kicking it Old School.”

Of course, they will continue their mission of showcasing unusual, sustainable, and accessible wines, beers, and spirits from around the world as well as hosting their coveted, special wine tastings and pairing dinners, along with their wildly popular Chef pop-up events.

Bottle Riot is a one-of-a-kind bar and listening lounge located in Wedge Studios (lower level) at 37 Paynes Way in the heart of Asheville’s River Arts District, open 7 days a week.
