About the Event

Come meet Matthew Rorick of Forlorn Hope Wines. He is one of our all time favorite and most progressive winemakers in California. We are totally geeking out that he will be stopping by District Wine Bar. This is his only stop in Asheville. Forlorn Hope Wines will dominate our wine list and will be available to purchase by the glass or retail by the bottle. Come get one of your "Rare Creatures" signed by the man himself.

Continue the conversation with Matthew at a special winemakers dinner featuring Forlorn Hope wines that evening. You may purchase tickets online, seating is limited.

"Winemaking, for me, revolves around stories. Within each glass can be found a tale that tells of season and soil, of history and vision, of careful planning and pure chance. I also make guitars, and play them (often loudly, infrequently well). I found my passion for food and wine at my grandfather's table, where the elder Rorick's love of sharing a bottle, a meal, and good conversation inspired my career in winemaking." Matthew Rorick

About the vinyards: Forlorn Hope’s estate vineyard is located in Calaveras County, just outside of the town of Murphys in the Sierra Foothills. The first vines were planted by Barden Stevenot in 1976 and expanded to its current 75 acres in 2000; Matthew Rorick took over the vineyard in 2013 and converted the farming to organic practices. At an elevation of 2000′, it is situated on limestone soils beneath a top layer of schist. The alpine growing season combined with limestone soils leave an indelible mark on the wines grown at RHV: beautiful aromatics, textural presence, and bright natural acidity are all hallmarks of the site.
